I had an impromptu in-person meeting with a good friend and business associate last week where we’ve either communicated via phone or email. Believe me, we know how busy our schedules can get, so any form of immediate communication was welcomed.

This time, we took the time to head out to the local Starbucks to strategize in person. That’s right. Knowing full well we could have continued our business discussion online as we had been doing, it’s amazing what a face-to-face conversation can do to get things done. In a matter of minutes, a laptop was powered up, decisions were made and “specialty” coffee consumed that would make the Mad Men guys pull our “man-cards”. What ever happened to those cocktail and cigarette meetings in bars and dark restaurants? Two answers: life-expectancy awareness and Social Media.

We at MediaSpin Solutions love our Social Media, but advise everyone to take the time to step back and reconnect with each other if possible. We encourage personal interaction and my local meeting last week emphasized its importance. Not only did we accomplish items on our “to-do” list, but enjoyed the comraderie and friendship. Don’t lose sight of the power of a handshake, even as Social Media brings us closer then ever. After all, it’s all about being connected.
